Matthew 13:1-23
Hearing and Bearing Fruit
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells the parable of the sower to reveal how people respond to the message of His kingdom. As the seed is scattered, it falls on different kinds of soil, showing how some hear but do not understand, some respond briefly but fall away, and others are slowly choked by the cares of life and the deceitfulness of wealth. This passage helps us see that the real issue is not the seed, but the condition of the heart.
This passage explores the role of the sower, the many obstacles that keep the word from taking root, and what it means to become good soil. Jesus calls us not just to hear His word, but to truly understand it, receive it, and live by it. Where that happens, real fruit grows. The invitation is simple but searching: listen to Jesus, hold fast to Him, and become the kind of life where His word takes deep root and produces lasting fruit.
