Genuine Love for Friends and Enemies

This passage describes what genuine Christian love looks like: it is sincere, grounded in God’s goodness, willing to take the initiative, persistent through hardship, attentive to others’ needs, and ready to share in both joy and sorrow. This love extends beyond friends and family to include those who hurt us. Rather than repaying evil with evil, Christians are called to pursue peace where possible, respond with goodness, and leave judgment to God. Yet loving this way can feel impossible when we are weary, wounded, or unloved ourselves. The foundation for enduring love is remembering how God has loved us in Christ. His unfailing mercy gives us the strength to love others, even when our own hearts want to give up.
